“Follow the yellow brick road, follow the yellow brick road, follow it, follow it, follow it, follow it, follow the yellow brick road!” Anyone name that movie? Yup, you guessed it? The Wizard of Oz. When I was a senior in high school I played Dorothy in our school’s production of The Wizard of Oz and ever since I’ve had a love for the musical. It will always hold a special place in my heart, the clicking of my heels 3 times while repeating “There’s no place like home” in my bright red sequin heels. So when I found these red sequin flats from Fit In Clouds it took me back to that moment and I knew that at least for memory sake, I needed a pair for myself.
At first I had no idea how I was going to style them. I didn’t want to be too flashy, but I wanted them to provide a fun ‘pop’ to my outfit. That was when I got the idea for this post.
Tip #1: Go casual with a dark pair of jeans
I wanted my first time styling them to be casual. I put on a pair of dark jeans so the bright red wouldn’t seem too bright. This helped to not draw too much attention to the sequins. I wore skinny jeans so part of the shoes weren’t covered up. I liked to be able to see all of the shoe, but if you want to tone down the sequins, feel free to wear a pair of jeans with a wider pant leg to cover up some of the sequins.
Tip #2: Don’t go overboard with colors
Whether you are wearing colored sequins or a silver sequin, don’t go overboard with the colors in your top. I paired it with a simple patterned slouch from Shop The Mint to keep the outfit simple. I also chose to keep my color palette to 3 colors, red, blue, and gray. This helped to tie in the red flats with my top, but keep the outfit fun and casual.
Tip #3: Pair your flats with a neutral skirt
You don’t have to pair your flats with just jeans. Sequin flats are great for dressing up an outfit for a night out or just adding a fun, unique item to a more neutral dress. I wore my sequin flats with my gray striped skirt and went for a more casual, dressed up look. I recommend a tulle skirt, blazer, or fancy black dress if you want to dress up for a fancy night out.
Tip #4: Keep it simple
My final tip combines all my previous tips, but overall keep it simple. Don’t wear big necklaces with huge jewels or bracelets that sparkle while wearing sequin flats. Keep your accessories simple and smaller, letting your shoes be the fun, unique accessory for your outfit.
If you are wanting to try a pair of sequin flats now, head over to Fit in Clouds for a variety of colors and styles. They also have a variety of other flats that are extremely comfortable, just like “walking on a cloud”, get it? 😉 One of my favorite characteristics of their flats is how soft the backs are where your heel fits. I always have problems with flats that leave an indent after being worn, but these don’t and I’m so glad. They also come in a mini bag where the flats can fold in half and fit inside, making it easy for travel. I wish all my shoes were that easy to pack away.
