I have an embarrassing face washing lifestyle to tell you about today. It’s the fact that for awhile in College I would get so tired before bed, that I wouldn’t wash my face before bed. I’d sleep in my makeup and I know how terrible that is. It definitely made me break out more, and caused my skin to feel dry and uneven, but when it was midnight and I was so tired, washing my face was the last thing I had on my mind. I’d always wash it when I woke up, but I learned that was not enough. The past few months I’ve been trying really hard to get into a bedtime routine of washing my face the right way, and I’m here to tell you it has made a huge difference.
I thought I would share my findings with you and a few tips I’ve learned from doing research into how to wash your face the right way with 10 helpful tips.
PICKING THE RIGHT CLEANSER
I’ve tried a lot of different cleansers over the years and I’ve found a few I have liked, but recently I started products from Pamela Metamorphosis and it has made all the difference. After I started using it, a few days in I could tell how much smoother, clear, and healthy my skin felt. I could actually feel the difference on my face and I was blown away. I’ve never felt such a difference before, and it made me want to continue my drive to take care of my skin because I finally knew what my skin could feel like after a productive cleanse. I’ve been using this cleanser and highly recommend it. You can buy it here. It is pricier than my other products, but what I’ve learned with them is a little goes a long way. I’ve been using it everyday for a month and I’ve barely put a dent into it. That’s when I know it is worth the money, especially since it has already helped my skin more than I thought possible.

KNOW WHAT YOUR SKIN NEEDS
Before you start buying products, determine whether you have oily or dry skin. I have dry skin, so I knew I needed a good cleanser that wouldn’t dry out my skin, but also a good moisturizer. If you have oily skin I would recommend getting a toner as well. I also have always been insecure about my under eyes. They are puffy and seem dark. So I decided to get an under eye serum to go along with my daily routine.

REMOVE MAKEUP, THEN USE CLEANSER
I think this is a preference, but I love using my makeup wipe removers to take off all my makeup and then wash my face. I feel like then instead of washing the makeup off my face I am washing my actually skin. I’ve loved doing this and can tell the difference it makes in my face washing.
WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE WASHING YOUR FACE
This may seem like a no brainer, but I hadn’t always thought about this tip. It makes perfect sense though. Our hands get dirty and unless we wash the dirt off our hands before touching our face, we are only doing ourself a disservice.
WATER TEMPERATURE
I use to hear that you should use hot water when washing your face, but after doing research you should really use a lukewarm water temperature.
TAKE YOUR TIME
Don’t rush the cleaning process. Make sure you are massaging the product into your skin by using your fingertips in an upward circular motion. I spend about 45-60 seconds massaging the cleanser into my skin. This helps to get into your skin and give you the best cleanse possible.
RINSE WELL
Make sure that when you rinse your face, you are getting all the soap off. Watching those hard to miss spots like around your nose or near your hairline are just as important as the easy places to clean like your cheeks. You don’t want to leave any residue while rinsing.
PAT TOWEL DRY
Don’t use your towel and dry your face by rubbing the water off. Instead use a towel and pat dry.
MOISTURIZE RIGHT AWAY
As soon as I’m done cleansing and drying my face off, I immediately moisturize my face. There is no need to wait a few minutes before putting your moisturizer on. I highly recommend moisturizing though, especially if you have dry skin. I use this moisturizer.
TWICE A DAY
I have made sure to get into the habit of washing my face both morning and night. I highly recommend cleaning your face twice a day, but don’t do it more than that. You don’t want to overdo your skin.
I can’t put into words how happy I am that I started a routine of better skincare. These tips above have helped my skin more than I thought possible. I love the way my skin feels and want you to feel that too.
